Ball-Jointed Doll Portraits 2018
I have collected ball jointed dolls since 2009. My collection is a continual
work in progress and a big part of the hobby for some collectors is photographing their dolls in all manner of ways, from box openings to WIP, from portraiture to “action shots” to serialized comic-book like stories. My favourite is portraiture, and documenting the changes from blank doll to the
finished character and beyond...comparing a raw new doll with their more finished friend...and around here someone is always getting a new wig, new eyes, or being painted anew. Some have established characters and some are still a Tabula Rasa, waiting for their story to be told as they are styled.
One of my cutest dolls actually reminds me of a Tiny, old and wise but not TOO serious. Téléma Esperanza de Blanca (or “Telly” as she calls herself)
is a Djinn, and when she grants a greedy, bad wish, she turns just a little
bit more into a CAT...she has Kitty Paws and Kitty Feet and a Tail so far
and her facial features shift back and forth from more to less cat-like...she lives in a silver Tea Urn and usually hides in there drinking Absinthe and singing Pyrate Ditties...or sits on a pillow in the Wardrobe in the U-noa
doll room.
